5 Things to Know Today, Nov. 2, In Montgomery County

Today is Tuesday, Nov. 2 and it is Election Day. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Council in Session: Montgomery County Council meets virtually at 9 a.m. The meeting starts with a proclamation recognizing Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month. Click here to see the agenda in its entirety. The meeting will be televised on County Cable Montgomery Channels Comcast HD 996 and SD6, RCN HD 1056 and SD 6, and Verizon 30. Additionally, it will be live-streamed on the council’s Facebook and Youtube channels.

2. Election Day: Residents of the city of Gaithersburg vote for mayor and two city councilmembers today if they haven’t already done so. To vote in person go to the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. The Activity Center offers same-day voter registration. Click here for a candidate’s guide.

3. Frost Alert: National Weather Service issued a Freeze Watch that’s in effect Wednesday from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m., so make sure to take the time to cover your plants.

4. Native American Heritage Month: November is Native American Heritage Month and Montgomery County is hosting a virtual book discussion from 7 to 8 p.m. with authors Alexandra Harris and Mark Hirsch. Harris and Hirsch published a book with the Smithsonian Institution called “Why We Serve: Native Americans in the U.S. Armed Forces.”

5. ICYMI: Maryland State Police is investigating the death of Montgomery County Police Lt. Dan Friz. Friz died from a serious collision in Lisbon Monday morning on I-70. He was off duty at the time of his death.
