A Look Back at 2013 (Video)

sonyamarkshriverAs we prepare to welcome the New Year, we thought we’d take a look back at some of the memorable MyMCMedia stories that we covered this past year in Montgomery County.

One of the biggest stories of the year in Maryland was the legalization of same sex marriage, and we were at the courthouse in January of 2013 for the first same sex marriages in Montgomery County:

Also, in January, a local flu outbreak that made headlines:

At the end of January, Congressman John Sarbanes visited with the Montgomery County Council and talked about his plans for Burtsonville:

Shortly after that, U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski visited with the Montgomery County Council to talk about her concerns about sequestration:

In February, we visited a local chocolate shop that has become a bit of a tourist attraction in Gaithersburg. Take a look:

We also went grocery shopping with organizers of the SNAP the Silence challenge:

Congressman John Delaney opened an office in Gaithersburg in February and MyMCMedia attended the open house:

In March, we were in the audience for a Leadership Montgomery workshop designed to educate those who were considering a 2014 run for elected office:

We also covered a Silver Spring Advisory Council meeting:

At the end of March, we visited a local retirement community in Rockville that welcomed some professional soccer players as the newest and youngest residents:

In April, the focus was on the Choice Hotels corporate headquarters move to downtown Rockville:

In late April, I was thrilled to meet a well known mystery author who calls Montgomery County home:

In May, we covered one of my favorite events, the Gaithersburg Book Festival:

Also, met an extraordinary teacher who is using an opera to teach the third grade curriculum at Stedwick Elementary:

We had several reports from the AT&T golf tournament at Congressional Country Club:

Throughout the summer, we covered almost every meeting of the Nighttime Economy Task Force:

In July, we went behind the scenes of the county’s new liquor control offices and warehouses:

We were on the scene when the County Executive cut the ribbon for the new Shady Grove bike path:

During the summer of 2013, we visited a Bethesda office park that welcomes food truck operators:

One of our biggest videos of the year was a report on the Washington Spirit:

And when summer was over, we attended the first day of school:

We were in Bethesda when the Startup Maryland bus made a stop at Bethesda Green:

In October, we covered President Obama’a visit to a business located in Rockville:

And, we previewed the Wegmans store before it officially opened to the public:

In November, a group of Chinese investors visited Montgomery County and we were there when they stopped at Johns Hopkins:

Then, in December, we covered an indie movie on location at the historic Rockville cemetery:

There were many more stories in between, including reports on the Silver Spring Transit Center, cybersecurity, A Day in the Life, the Purple Line, Ramadan, minimum wage, the Montys, Ten Mile Creek, open data initiatives, etc.

Our most popular story in 2013: a marriage proposal at the Winter Lights Festival in Gaithersburg.
