Armed Robbery at Westfield Mall (Video)
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred on Dec. 24 at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. On Jan. 13, investigators released surveillance videos of a male and female suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them.
On Dec. 24, at approximately 2:05 p.m., officers responded to the Westfield Montgomery Mall, located at 7101 Democracy Boulevard, for an armed robbery call.
According to police, officers spoke with the 71-year-old victim, who stated that she had exited the mall and was walking to her vehicle in a parking garage adjacent to the Sears store. Police say the suspect, who was walking close to the victim, produced a handgun and grabbed her purse. Police describe the male suspect was described as dark-skinned, with a thin build and wearing a dark-colored coat.
Police report that within approximately two hours of the robbery, the victim’s stolen credit cards and checkbook were used at stores in Lanham and College Park. Detectives have obtained store surveillance of a male suspect and female suspect using one of the stolen checks.
