Berliner Says Council Will Pass $15 an Hour Minimum Wage by Year’s End (VIDEO)

Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner is promising that a $15 minimum wage will pass by the end of this year.

Berliner was asked about the minimum wage issue at a rally in Silver Spring on Sunday night and at a news briefing with reporters on Monday morning.

“Before the year is out, we will pass a $15 an hour minimum wage,” said Berliner at his news briefing on Feb. 27. “I have said that repeatedly, that this process is about getting to yes. It is about having a different balance when it comes to our small business community in particular and how we address it. The county executive has said, for example, that he wants exemptions for small business. So we have to get our minds around how we can structure this so we can both advance the legitimate desire for people who work too hard for too little to do better, and minimize the harm…That’s the balance we are trying to strike. It is about balance.”
