Bike to Work Day Set for May 20

The annual Bike to Work Day in the D.C. region takes place Friday, May 20. The Metropolitan Council of Government’s Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association are co-organizers of the event in our region. Nationally, Bike to Work Day takes place on the third Friday of May each year.

The event promotes bicycling as a clean, fun and healthy way to get to work.

Bikers may register at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org. All registrants will be entered in a regional bicycle raffle, and the first 15,000 to register and participate will receive a free T-shirt.

More than 100 pit stops will be set up across the region – 13 in Montgomery County. Here is a map of pit stops.

The county’s department of transportation is sponsoring six pit stops, where there will be refreshments, music and local vendor displays. There will be free raffle prizes throughout the morning and a grand prize raffle of a new bike at each MCDOT-sponsored pit stop. Teleworkers and leisure riders are encouraged to participate.

The events from the previous two years were modified to avoid gathering because of COVID-19. Giveaways were distributed through 15 bike shops throughout the county in place of the lively pit stops.
