A three-story condominium fire displaces a Bethesda family, according to a spokesperson with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services.

MCFRS Spokesperson Pete Piringer said the blaze occurred this afternoon at 5700 Chapman Mill Drive in Bethesda where the fire originated on the deck/balcony. According to Piringer, the occupant was able to get out of the house safely with no injuries.

A neighbor and passerby saw the fire and called 911. Piringer credits their call and assistance with putting out the fire as key in preventing further damage.

Piringer  says that the estimated cost of damage is $10,000 and the  cause is most likely “improperly discard smoke materials.”
