County Has Vacancies on Board in Bethesda, Dickerson and at MCPL
Do you want a say in the future of downtown Bethesda? Do you want to help direct the future of the county’s library system? Do you want to weigh-in on environmental issues in the Dickerson Area?
The county has a way for you to do it by applying for one of the following vacancies on a county board or committees:
• Bethesda Urban Partnership, Inc. Board of Directors
County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on the Bethesda Urban Partnership, Inc. Board of Directors, for a residential representative who lives within the Bethesda urban district. The incumbent member is eligible to apply for reappointment.
The Bethesda Urban Partnership is responsible for the maintenance of streetscape and streetscape amenities, the promotion and organization of promotional activities, the Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District, management of the transportation management district, and other similar activities.
The 11-member Board of Directors oversees all aspects of the urban district program and links the community in the provision of urban district services. Membership includes the following: two members nominated by the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce; three members who are, or represent, owners of an optional method development; one member who is an owner, partner, proprietor, or corporate officer of a small business; one member who resides in a residential community within the Bethesda-Chevy Chase planning area and is nominated by the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board; and one member who is a resident member of the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board and is recommended by the board; one residential representative from an adjacent neighborhood; one residential representative who lives within the Urban District; and one ex-officio, non-voting County Executive representative.
Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. The Board currently meets the third Tuesday morning of every other month at 7:45 AM in Bethesda, with the exception of August and December.
• Dickerson Area Facilities Implementation Group
County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill five vacancies on the Dickerson Area Facilities Implementation Group for representatives of the affected upcounty community.
The purpose of this Group is to address community and environmental issues and concerns pertaining to the County’s solid waste facilities located in the Dickerson area. These facilities include the Resource Recovery Facility, the Yard Trim Composting Facility, properties originally purchased for the Site 2 landfill, and property associated with the Linden Farm (formerly called the Matthews Farm).
The 18-member Group has 12 voting members, including representatives of Sugarloaf Citizens Association, For a Rural Montgomery (FARM), representatives from the towns of Poolesville and Barnesville, the Solid Waste Advisory Committee, the Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board, and six representatives of the affected community. Six non-voting members include representatives of the Operator of the Resource Recovery Facility, the Operator of the Montgomery County Compost Facility, the Operator of the Dickerson GenOn (now NRG Energy), the Department of Environmental Protection and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
• Library Board
County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill five vacancies on the Library Board. Four incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.
The 12-member Advisory Board gives community input to the County Executive on matters affecting the public library system.
Members serve three year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Department of Public Libraries, Administrative Offices, 3rd Floor, Rockville Memorial Library, 21 Maryland Avenue, Suite 310, Rockville. Each Board member serves as liaison to assigned Library Advisory Committees, which may involve additional meetings each month.

Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Applications of individuals selected for appointment to groups that are confirmed by the Council are made public as part of the confirmation process.
