Diesel Fuel Spill Disables MARC Train in Rockville (VIDEO & PHOTOS)

A diesel fuel spill disabled a MARC passenger train carrying approximately 600 passengers in Rockville on Wednesday evening, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials.

According to Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the train stopped at the tracks near the Nicholson Lane overpass at around 6 p.m. and the fuel leak was contained. A hazmat team was on scene and the train was stopped for several hours.

Piringer said that train traffic was stopped in both directions and two additional trains were moved into place to transfer passengers between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Northbound backed up train traffic was single tracked after the incident.

No fire or injuries were reported.
