Discovering Home Arts at the Fair (Videos)
The Montgomery County Agriculture Fair has been the highlight for area residents for 69 years. It is the opportunity to celebrate the summer with festivities including seeing animals firsthand, riding various equipment, and watching super trucks and animals. However, did you know you can view the beautiful Home Arts exhibits by your neighbors and those of surrounding states in the large Home Arts Building?
Be sure to check out the website www.mcagfair.com which is full of Fair information, AND includes the catalog information for the Home Arts Department and instructions for entering Home Arts. As you roam through those pages, consider entering your items and surprise yourself with the fun that you will have!
The Fair, located in Gaithersburg between Rte. 355 and I-270 is convenient; as you approach the area you will literally FEEL the excitement. Smiling faces on young and old appear as they approach the venue.
SAVE THE DATES: The fair dates this year are August 8th to August 16th. Home Arts entries are accepted August 7th and 8th, judged the 9th by qualified persons from surrounding counties, and displayed for the public on Sunday the 10th in time for the department to open to the public on Monday the 11th.
Among the demonstrations in Home Arts is Machine Embroidery by state-of-the-art machines. The motifs selected are used for a wide array of items from garments to B’day cards and home dec items. The motifs compatible with your particular machine are available at the sewing machine centers or online. The machines for the most part do ‘routine’ sewing, i.e., garment and home dec straight and zig zag stitches along with a vast library of built in stitches in the machine. The videos below show a simple motif of two kittens during the stitching of these darling animals.
There will be delightful garments in the Clothing department…These dresses for the twins and older sister worked very well until the group grew active.
