Fall Is Here!

Autumn is in the air. I love this time of year. Saturday marks the “official” start of the fall season.  The leaves are beginning to change color, the air is getting cooler and apples are ripe for the picking at many orchards.  Not to mention FOOTBALL (my favorite sport #HTTR)!  Summer is pretty much over.

For me, fall started last week.  MCM’s classes are in full swing and I started one of my favorite classes, Citizen Journalism. You may have read my blog over the summer about our Summer Backpack Journalism Academy; well Citizen Journalism is just as  much fun. This class is awesome!  We had our second class last night and the conversation was fantastic. I cannot wait to see what these journalists bring back in two weeks. They are now hitting the streets to record their stories.  The main focus last night was interviewing and every one of our new journalists left with a new confidence and understanding how to interview. I am so excited to see what happens with each one of them.

This is such a great time of year and exciting things are happening at MCM. Make sure you stay tuned to see what happens next…

      Dear MC Media,

Recently the Governors of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia
designated September 29, 2012 as the “Day to Serve” in all three
States (, and I am a member of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and we have been
encouraged to reach out to different organizations in our community
(business, faith-based, etc) in order to provide a significant
contribution to our community and to create long lasting relations to
tackle two specific issues in our area: help benefit the environment
and end hunger in Maryland. Our local LDS unit (including Boy Scout
Troop 1220) has identified Manna Food Center ( a non-profit organization in Montgomery County as the potential recipient of food and volunteers for the “Day of Service”. Several business and
faith-based organizations have responded to the call, and we have planned a “carnival – type” activity to collect food donations on September 29, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the following location: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 20020 Montgomery Village Avenue, Montgomery Village, MD. Since this is a community event, we
are also reaching out to you (MC Media) to participate that day with us,by providing a some type of promotion / coverage for this activity (we are expecting a large turnout of people attending the event). I don’t have a list of producers / contacts at MC Media, but If this is something any interested producer at MC Media can contribute to our community event, we will be very grateful. This could be a good opportunity for training new producers / technicians. For more information, or to coordinate details, please contact Anabelle
      Aviles-Chacon at 240-347-6835 or

      Best regards,

      Hanssar Chacon
