A fatal plane crash on Monday morning has claimed the life of six people.

It happened at 10:43 a.m. on Dec. 8 in the 19700 block of Drop Forge Lane in a neighborhood near the Montgomery County Airpark.

Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer reports that three people on the plane were killed in the crash and three people, including two young children and their mother, were killed in their house where the plane crashed.

When firefighters arrived on scene, Piringer said multiple houses were on fire from the plane crash. According to authorities, the mother and her two young children were found on the second floor of their house.

Police have identified the mother as Marie Gemmell, age 36, Cole Gemmell, age 3, and Devon Gemmell, age 1-1/2 months. The identities of the three people on board the plane have not been released yet.

Officials with the FAA and the NTSB remain on site investigating the crash. The American Red Cross has been called in to assist displaced residents.

Police are advising motorists that Snouffer School Road between Maryland 124 and Goshen Road will be closed through at least rush hour on Tuesday morning as the investigation continues. Police said local traffic may be allowed in by officers but may go no further than Ridge Heights and Chesley Knoll Court.

On Monday evening, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett visited the scene and offered his condolences to family members.
