Fighting Synthetic Marijuana (Photos & Video)

A new Maryland law takes effect on Oct. 1 that criminalizes the possession of designer drugs sometimes referred to as “K2/Spice” or “synthetic marijuana.”

Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal (see photo right) is among those telling local merchants that the dangerous products they have been selling will now bring criminal charges if sold at their establishments.

At the event were, left to right: Councilmember Craig Rice; Sandy, Steve and Tony Eichler, who lost a family member due to the use of synthetic drugs; State’s Attorney John McCarthy, Sheriff Darren Popkin; Susie Sinclair Smith of the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless; Carol Walsh of the Collaboration Council for Children, Youth & Families; and State Delegates Craig Zucker and Sheila Hixson.
