Montgomery County firefighters are investigating what sparked a two-story house fire in the 8500 block of Horseshoe Lane in Potomac.

At one point, Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer said firefighters were engaged in a “fire fight” at the large house that was being renovated and was unoccupied.

There were flames showing when the first units arrived at the scene and a portion of the structure partially collapsed during the fire fighting operation, Piringer said.

Over 60 firefighters responded to the blaze, according to Piringer.

There was no report of any injuries.

According to Piringer, damage is estimated at $750,000.

Firefighters plan to return to the neighborhood this afternoon to talk to neighbors about fire safety.
