Firefighters Investigate Cause of Fire at Leisure World (PHOTOS)

leisure5Two firefighters were injured battling an apartment fire at 3620 Gleneagles Drive in Leisure World on Tuesday afternoon, according to a Montgomery County fire spokesperson.

Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer said nearly a dozen residents were displaced by the blaze that began around 3:15 p.m. on the first floor of a bedroom. When firefighters first arrived at the scene, he said, heavy flames were showing.

According to Piringer, several garden-style apartment units were damaged by the fire.

Piringer said the cause of the fire is still under investigation but he said it is believed to be electrical in nature.

No residents were injured in the blaze, Piringer said.

One dog was rescued and resuscitated by firefighters, according to Piringer. A cat remains missing, he said.

According to Piringer, the two injured firefighters’ were transported to an area hospital to be evaluated for heat exhaustion and neck and back injuries. He said their injuries are not life threatening.

The Red Cross has been called to help the residents displaced by the fire.

Damage is estimated at approximately $1 million, Piringer said.
