Five Things to Know for July 31 in Montgomery County

It’s Friday, July 31, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Maryland Face Covering Order: Governor Hogan’s expanded order announced Thursday takes effect today at 5 p.m. The order requires “all Marylanders over the age of five to wear face coverings in the public spaces of all businesses across the state. Face coverings will also be required in outdoor public areas, whenever it is not possible to maintain physical distancing.”

3. Gaithersburg Road Work:  Firstfield Rd between Quince Orchard and Clopper Roads is scheduled to be resurfaced today between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

4. Sunday Storytime:  Adventure Theatre’s anti-racism storytimes series continues Sunday, August 2 at 2 p.m. This virtual interview features 14-year old ballerina Ava Holloway and her mother Amanda Lynch. They co-authored the book, “My Ancestors’ Wildest Dreams,” based on the viral photo of Ava performing ballet in front of the Robert E. Lee Memorial in Richmond, Va.

5. Covid-19 vs the Flu:  This video was released in April when about 50,000 people in the country had died. Since then, there have been over 150,000 deaths according to the CDC COVID Data Tracker,
