Five Things to Know Today, Nov. 16, in Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Nov. 16, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County:

1. COVID-19 Testing: Montgomery County is holding eight free testing clinics today. The schedule of clinics may be found here.

2. Maryland Courts Postpone Jury Trials:   Starting today all jury trials will be postponed until 2021.

3. Municipal Monday:  Gaithersburg’s Mayor and Council meet virtually at 7:30 p.m. Here’s the agenda and the work packet. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet virtually at 7 p.m. The agenda may be found here.

4. Racial Equity & Social Justice Policy Webinar:  Learn about the policy Montgomery County is in the process of creating during this webinar sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, The Latino Health Initiative, and the Montgomery County Branch of the NAACP. This virtual discussion takes place at 7 p.m. and features Councilmember Nancy Navarro, Dan Reed, and Monica Escalante. Register here.

5. COVID-19 Listening Tours for Women:  The Montgomery County Commission for Women, in partnership with the County Executive and members of the County Council, are hosting a series of virtual listening sessions this month with the third tonight at 7 p.m. The purpose of each session is to provide women in the community an opportunity to share how they have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Tonight’s listening session focuses on the Upcounty area; County Executive Marc Elrich and Council President Sidney Katz, Councilmembers Andrew Friedson, Will Jawando and Craig Rice will join the meeting.

And one more thing:  The Olney Liquor and wine store, which is part of Montgomery County’s Alcohol Beverage Services, is scheduled to reopen today after closing when a store employee tested positive for COVID-19.
