Five Things to Know Today, Oct. 9, in Montgomery County

It’s Friday, Oct. 9, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County:

1. COVID-19 Testing: Montgomery County is offering free COVID-19 testing today in Germantown, Rockville and Silver Spring. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. testing is available at the parking garage behind the Regal Cinema in Germantown and at the Recreation Department Administrative Building, 4010 Randolph Road in Silver Spring. Also, from noon to 4 p.m. testing is available at the Rockville United Methodist Church, 112 W. Montgomery Ave.

2. Bethesda Food Distribution:  A group of nonprofits, businesses and churches are distributing food every Friday from now through October in Bethesda at the Bethesda Chevy-Chase Rescue Squad located at 5020 Battery Lane. The hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. MyMCMedia recently spoke with the organizers.

3. Sandy Spring Museum Reopens:  The museum reopens today with the “Makers Among Us” art exhibit. Visitors must make a reservation online to view the exhibit which is open Fridays from now through Nov. 23.

4. Light Bulb Exchange:  Bring in your old incandescent or CFL light bulbs to receive up to three free LED bulbs. The pop-up event takes place outside of the Holiday Park Senior Center in Silver Spring as part of the active Aging campaign from 1 to 4 p.m.

5. Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body for 50+:  As part of the Active Aging Week campaign, this virtual presentation today will include tips from the latest research. The program starts at 3 p.m. on Zoom.

And one more thing: Enjoy live heritage music on the front porch of the Agricultural History Farm Park farmhouse in Derwood at 6 p.m. Bring a picnic and your favorite instrument to play along or perform in the open mic portion of the evening. There is a 20 person maximum and all participants must register online.
