Gaithersburg Police Pistol Competition

The Gaithersburg Police Department held its first annual “Chief’s Pistol Competition,” sponsored by the Gaithersburg Police Foundation, on October 10. This year, 18 officers qualified for the event based on an average of the officer’s daytime and nighttime qualifications. The Department’s firearms instructors designed a combat course for the competition and the top three officers were awarded trophies.

The three officers awarded were:

1st Place: Officer Gregg Johannesen
2nd Place: Corporal Lester Rice
3rd Place: Officer Jonathan Bennett

“The pistol competition is an extension of an officer’s regular training,” said Police Chief Mark Sroka. “Through competitive shooting, officers are given an opportunity to perform under pressure, to gain confidence so they can perform better on the street, and to add to their repertoire some of the finer aspects of marksmanship – which could someday save lives.”
