Johns Hopkins, Maryland Headline WalletHub’s Top Colleges in the State List

Ahead of the first “early decision” college application deadline looming on Nov. 1, the personal finance company WalletHub released its 2024 Best College & University Rankings report.

According to its website, “WalletHub compared more than 800 higher-education institutions in the U.S. across 30 key measures. The data set is grouped into seven categories, such as Student Selectivity, Cost & Financing, and Career Outcomes. The metrics range from student-faculty ratio to graduation rate to post-attendance median salary.”

The top-10 colleges and universities in Maryland according to WalletHub are:

  1. Johns Hopkins University (No. 9 overall)
  2. University of Maryland-College Park (No. 89 overall)
  3. St. John’s College (No. 113 overall)
  4. St. Mary’s College of Maryland (No. 198 overall)
  5. University of Maryland-Baltimore County (No. 253 overall)
  6. Goucher College (No. 341 overall)
  7. Towson University (No. 394 overall)
  8. Frostburg State University
  9. University of Baltimore
  10. Morgan State University

Johns Hopkins ranks first in the state in admission rate, student-faculty ratio, gender & racial diversity, graduation rate and post-attendance median salary. The university was fourth in the state in on-campus crime and tenth in net cost.

The University of Maryland College Park is second in the state in admission rate, graduation rate and post-attendance median salary. It is third in general & racial diversity, sixth in on-campus crime, seventh in net cost, and tenth in student-faculty ratio.
