GO Committee To Vet Early Voting Sites
The Montgomery County Council’s Government Operations and Fiscal Policy (GO) Committee will hold a worksession on the proposed list of early voting sites in Montgomery County at 1 p.m. on Oct. 14.
The Maryland General Assembly, in its 2013 session, approved increasing the number of early voting sites in the County from five to eight or nine.
In June, Council President Navarro sent a letter to the County Board of Elections urging that early voting sites selected be easily accessible to public transportation. It is estimated that the first-year costs of adding three additional early voting centers would be about $158,000 and adding four additional centers would cost approximately $210,000. These estimates included one-time costs for each center.
The GO Committee, chaired by Nancy Navarro and includes Councilmembers Valerie Ervin and Hans Riemer, will meet in the Third Floor Conference Room of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville.
The meeting will be televised live by County Cable Montgomery (CCM—Cable Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN, Channel 30 on Verizon). The broadcast also will be streamed through the County Web site at www.montgomerycountymd.gov .
