January 3:  Drum Circle with Stream

January 7:  Intro to Ballet

Courses are for youth with physical disabilities. Discover the basics and fundamentals of classic ballet vocabulary and technique. An informal and nurturing setting will introduce students to the importance of strength, flexibility, rhythm and musicality in a fun safe environment. January 8:  Men’s 40+ Basketball

January 10:  Jillian Michael’s Body SHRED

For ages 18 and up. SHRED is an acronym for Synergetic, High Intensity, Resistance, Endurance and Dynamic, which describes the primary elements and variables you’ll demand of your body each time you participate in this class. Jillian’s fun and effective high intensity, metabolic conditioning workout provides the ultimate challenge. Participants need to bring light hand weights (3-5lb suggested) and yoga mat. January 11: Yoga for Everybody

10-11:15 am For ages 16 and up. Class is for beginning and continuing students. Whether you practice consistently or this is your first encounter, yoga is for everybody. Yoga is more than just physical exercise- it’s a transformation practice that integrates body, mind and spirit. Each class consists of breath awareness, warm-ups, yoga postures and guided relaxation techniques to create a sense of calm and well-being. 11-11:50 am For individuals with disabilities ages 7 to 13 years old.

Entertain and challenge your brain with fun games that test visual perception, pattern recognition, spatial relations, problem solving, matching and memory skills, and brain teasers. January 14:  Holiday Wonderland

1:30-3:30 pm A family oriented community event to welcome Winter and the New Year. Activities include light refreshments, arts and craft activities, godie bags (limited quantities) and a holiday based puppet show produced by Blue Sky Puppet Theatre. Featuring performance by the Three Not So Little Pigs, with a puppet workshop to follow. Particpants will also enjoy a photo booth on-site to capture moments of the New Year with family and friends. January 16:  4th Annual Fundraiser for Wounded Veterans Zumbathon

10 am-12:30 pm The Damascus Senior Center Sponsors Incorporated (DSCSI) will pay honor to our Wounded Veterans with a Zumbathon and raise money for these veterans through the Fisher House Foundation of MD. There will be a number of dynamic instructors who will donate their time. Donations requested $20.00 or whatever you can afford to give to the veterans. Cash or checks made to the Damascus Senior Center Incorporated (Please write in the box on the check for Fisher House Foundation) and DSCSI will send one check to the Fisher House Foundation of Rockville MD.

January 21: 100 Mile Challenge Kickoff

2-4 pm Walk, jog, run a mile a day for 100 days or participate in 20 minutes of continuous physical activity (bike, swim, yoga, aerobics, ski, weightlifting etc.) it all counts as one mile. Get creative and remember, it’s all about having fun while making a lifestyle change! The program is self-reporting; you are accountable for tracking your own miles. You can simply do one mile a day or you can complete 2 miles one day and take a break the next – the goal is to complete 100 miles (or more) in 100 days, it’s all up to you.
All registered receive a t-shirt, water bottle and swag bag. In addition registered participants are automatically eligible to win weekly prizes and entered into the Grand Prize drawing(s) Receive weekly emails to keep you motivated and moving with health and wellness information and VIP Access to the Health and Wellness Festival on May 6, 2017. You may register as an individual or as part of a group participation challenge.
