Leggett on Death of Nelson Mandela
“Nelson Mandela was one of the world’s truly exceptional leaders. He fought valiantly for those who were oppressed in South Africa and paid with 27 years of his life in prison. He emerged from that confinement, forgave his enemies, and led a nation where today all South Africans, regardless of color, are equal under the law. He had the capacity to hate the sin without hating the sinner. His courage under difficult circumstances, his gentle humor, and his wise leadership inspired his countrymen and touched the world.
“Rarely in history does such a leader have such respect and such positive impact. Gandhi was one. Dr. King was another. Mother Teresa yet another. We now add Nelson Mandela to that list.
“The people of South Africa mourn his loss. And all the world mourns with them.”
