In this MyMCMedia extra, Valerie Bonk asks Judith Vaughan-Prather, Executive Director of the Montgomery County Commission for Women, about the upcoming Women’s Legislative Briefing on Sunday, Jan. 26.

The event will feature seminars on legislation in the 2014 session of the Maryland General Assembly that is of particular concern to women. Topics include workplace issues, retirement security, the Health Care Reform Act, sex trafficking and domestic abuse.

The keynote speaker for the briefing is Joanne Bamberger, author of “Mothers of Intention: How Women & Social Media are Revolutionizing Politics in America.”

For the first time this year, the commission is adding a pair of special workshops for teenage women that will focus on the portrayal of women in the media and how that alters women’s ability to lead.

The program will be held at The Universities at Shady Grove from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
