MCPD SWAT Team Wins Competition

On Wednesday, September 26, two 4-person Montgomery County Police SWAT teams competed in the 3rd Annual Iron Team Endurance Competition hosted by the Prince George’s County Police Department. These two teams competed against 27 other military, state, and local SWAT teams from throughout the greater Washington Metropolitan area.

Image of 2012 Annual Iron Team Endurance Competition WinnersThe Iron Team Endurance Competition is a tremendously challenging event in which teams must display extreme levels of strength, endurance, and athleticism. In addition to a 4-mile run, officers competed in over 12 land and water based events to include flipping a 1,000 pound tire while wearing a gas mask, carrying a telephone pole, pulling weighted chains, carrying a boat, and rolling a weighted barrel for approximately 80 yards.
Montgomery County Police is proud to announce that, for the 3rd consecutive year, an MCP team won the competition.
Team memebers are, Darren Crandell, Ed Clarke, Jr., Abe Groveman, and Jordan Young.

In addition MCP’s second team earned a 3rd place finish. Team member are Steve Phelps, Wayne Hoyt, Mike Henry, and Justin Haire.
