MCPS Student Named in Discovery Education Challenge

Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist ChallengeA Robert Frost Middle School student is among the 10 finalists in the 2015 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge.

Iris Gupta, a rising seventh-grade student, is scheduled compete for the title of “America’s Top Young Scientist” on Oct. 12 to 13 and can win a $25,000 prize at 3M headquarters in Minnesota.

Middle school students created a short video describing a new, innovative solution that could solve or impact an everyday problem.

The contest is a partnership between Discovery Education and 3M that encourages the exploration of science and innovation and promotes the importance of science communication.

According to a news release, Gupta’s invention explores the use of nanoparticles to block, and ultimately stop, allergens at their source.
