Service Unit 31-6’s Media Team met with reporter Tracie Potts to learn some tips to improve their communication skills. She gave us the assignment to write a quick blog post about her using what they learned. Find out about who Ms. Potts is and what we learned below.

On Sunday, September 13th, the GSCNC service unit 31-6 Media Team was paid a visit by Tracie Potts, an NBC reporter. She talked to the girls about how they could be better reporters. She taught them how to write articles better, take better pictures, and what to include in blog posts. She then challenged them to write a short blog post, using their new skills.

“That presentation was cool,” said media team member Dana Graham, “I learned a lot.”

Dana isn’t the only one who learned a lot. The idea of adding quotes to add some opinion had never occurred to a lot of our reporters. Mia Jackson confirms this with her quote “It was a great experience. I think we’re all better reporters.”

We hope we can do something like this again soon.
