National Weather Service Issues Flood Warnings

car rainUPDATED The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood warning for Montgomery County from now until 5:30 p.m. and a flood warning is in effect until 8:15 p.m. for small streams.

According to the NWS, heavy rains have saturated the area. Streams may begin to rise out of their banks as the rain continues.

Some locations that may experience flooding include Rockville, Gaithersburg and Bethesda, according to the Flash Flood Warning.

In Gaithersburg, Clopper Road was closed at Firstfield Road because of flooding shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer reported a water rescue at Woodfield Road and Watkins Road where a car was stranded because of high water.

Motorists are reminded to be careful when driving. Do not drive into flooded roads or roads that have been closed. Large ponds of water can increase the risk of losing control of your vehicle. Drive slowly.
