The IT strategy and consulting firm works directly with businesses, nonprofits and federal government partners, many of which reside in Montgomery County.

“Our promise to organizations is to help them grow, and that’s hard to do when they see us as three disparate companies,” said MainSpring CEO Marshall Micheals, who owned and founded the firm 22 years ago. “We’ve grown from three employees in a townhouse basement doing cabling to a strategic firm with more than 50 consultants in four states. The change is huge and we’re seeing the impact in the way we help CEOs and leaders use IT to meet their mission.”

MainSpring also announced a new five-year contract to support an Army program headquartered at Fort Detrick, Md. The firm will provide engineering, security and logistical support for Army medical IT systems deployed overseas. The new contract will expand MainSpring’s presence to Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Fort Bragg, N.C., Fort Lewis, Wash., and overseas.

Founded in 1993, MainSpring is headquartered in Poolesville, with offices in Florida, Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin. The firm supports a wide range of clients including businesses, non-profits and government agencies such as the Department of Defense.

Micheals established the company as CNS in 1993 with just three employees in a townhouse basement focused on bringing small businesses into the new age with cabling services, according to a company press release.

In 2009, CNS launched a new application development division branded as Anvil Dataworks to partner with organizations looking for innovative solutions using FileMaker, a solution from Apple. Anvil grew to support clients across the business units, like the National Institute of Health and the Department of Justice.

Now under one new name, MainSpring has 57 employees in four states and is expanding their presence to Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Fort Bragg, N.C., Fort Lewis, Wash., and Baltimore, Md., and overseas.
