Requests for Unemployment Continue to Fall

Initial claims for unemployment by Montgomery County residents continued to drop. During the week that ended Oct. 31, 1,943 Montgomery County residents filed initial claims. The previous week, which ended Oct. 24, 2,282 Montgomery County residents filed initial unemployment claims, according to the Maryland Department of Labor.

Statewide, the number of initial claims filed last week dropped by more than 1,500. During the week that ended Oct. 31, 18,383 Marylanders filed initial claims for unemployment. During the week that ended Oct. 24, 19,946 Marylanders had filed initial unemployment claims.

The Maryland Department of Labor announced it has paid more than $7.5 billion in unemployment benefits between March 9 and Oct. 17. DOL paid a total of $7,598,774 in state and federal unemployment benefits.
