Rockville Man Charged in Fatal Stabbing at Lakeforest Mall

A Rockville man was charged with first degree murder in the stabbing death of an employee in the Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg.

Trenton Flowers-Jackson, 25, was arrested Feb. 26 is being held after his bond hearing was waived Monday afternoon. The court requested a mental health evaluation be conducted.

On Feb. 21, Gaithersburg City and Montgomery County police officers went to Lakeforest mall, 701 Russell Ave., at 10:45 a.m. after being told of a stabbing. When they arrived, Jose Alexander Maldonado, 23, was suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to police. He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

He was stabbed on his face, ear, stomach, shoulder and back.

According to court records, when police asked Maldonado who stabbed him, he replied, “‘maybe a guy named Trent.'” When asked again, the victim said the name Trent two times.

According to court records, Flowers-Jackson went to the mall and entered the T-Mobile store where Maldonado worked. Police saw on store video, that “without provocation,” Flowers-Jacksons attacked Maldonado.

The two knew each other, police said. According to court records, Flowers-Jackson, who worked at Shady Grove Hospital, apparently believed that the victim had hacked into his computer.

In mid-January, the mother of Flowers-Jackson had called police and asked that they check on him. She said he “has been showing signs of psychosis, hearing voices and believes he is outside of his body and having delusions,” according to court records.

On Feb. 12, Flowers-Jackson called police to report that someone was stalking his computer and phone, police said.

According to police, Maldonado tried to escape but collapsed near the mall’s food court.

The preliminary hearing for Flowers-Jackson is set for March 25 at 8:30 a.m. at Montgomery District Court in Rockville.
