Rockville Reports Fireworks Show Difficulties

The city of Rockville’s Independence Day fireworks show was cut short because of “technical difficulties.”

According to city officials, the show was planned to be 20 minutes long but
experienced technical difficulties about six minutes after it started at Montgomery College’s Rockville campus.

Unable to diagnose the problem, city officials said the fireworks technician made the decision to move directly to the show’s three minute finale, which was unaffected.

“We are disappointed,” said Barbara Matthews, Rockville’s city manager. “This is an event our community looks forward to each year, and we take pride in providing high quality celebrations in Rockville. When working with explosives, technical difficulties can and do occur. Safety always has to be the priority.”

According to a news release, Rockville officials will be working with its fireworks vendor to examine the problem and minimize the possibility of this situation occurring in the future.

The fireworks show is an annual tradition in Rockville and the celebration includes music, patriotic songs, dancing and food.
