Rockville Road Race Set for July 20
Nothing motivates a runner to hit the pavement day after day than a good old-fashioned road race, and the Darcars Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest, which benefits Rockville’s Youth Recreation Fund, is one of the best in the area.
Register now for the 8K evening race — which includes a wheelchair division – or the event’s 1K fun run and get ready to celebrate mid-summer with your friends at the block party afterwards with music and refreshments.
The runfest is Saturday, July 20 and kicks off at 7 p.m. with live music by Lloyd Dobbler Effect. Ten-year-old pop star Aishlinn Kivlighn will sing the national anthem and the Rockville Mayor and Council will welcome runners at 8:30 p.m.
The races start at 8:40 p.m. (wheelchair division), 8:45 p.m. (8K), and 8:50 p.m. (1K fun run) on North Washington Street in town center. The course runs through Rockville neighborhoods and the Montgomery College-Rockville Campus and turns south on Rockville Pike as it returns to town center.
Due to construction at the college, the race route was slightly re-routed this year. The course will be closed to traffic.
Packet pick up is at Potomac River Running in Rockville Town Square.
The registration fee is:
• $34 online now through June 30
• $39 online from July 1 through July 19 (until 5 p.m. on the 19th)
• $39 in person on July 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Potomac River Running
• $45 in person on July 20 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Potomac River Running
• $10 for the 1K fun run online or at Potomac River Running
The race benefits the City’s Youth Recreation Fund, which provides financial assistance to Rockville children who may not otherwise be able to participate in City programs, and community grants through the Rockville Rotary Club.
