Silver Spring Library Will Receive Amharic Language Collection
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett joined members of the Ethiopian community today (Oct. 24) at 1 p.m. to announce a new Amharic language collection that will be housed in the Silver Spring library. Also speaking at the event will be Meron Wondwosen, secretary of the Ethiopian Literary & Cultural Awareness Association and Elias Woldu, vice chair of the African American Advisory Group. The announcement will be made at the County Executive’s Conference Room, Executive Office Building, Rockville.
Amharic, a Semitic language spoken in Ethiopia, is the second most spoken Semitic language in the world. There are more than 58,000 Montgomery County residents who were born in Africa, and Ethiopians make up the largest segment of African immigrants.
