Silver Spring Nonprofit Running Galentine’s Drive For Bras, Menstrual Products

Silver Spring Cares, a local nonprofit that serves Silver Spring community needs, is running a Galentine’s drive for bras, underwear and menstrual hygiene products throughout the month of February.

People can donate new and gently used bras, new underwear and sealed menstrual hygiene products. All hygiene products are accepted if they are individually wrapped or in a new box.

Donation drop-off times and locations are as follows:

  • AstroLab Brewing at 8216 Georgia Ave.
    Hours: Tuesday and Wednesday 4-9 p.m., Thursday 4-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 12-10 p.m., Sunday 12-8 p.m.
  • El Golfo Restaurant at 8739 Flower Ave.
    Hours: Sunday – Thursday 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
  • GoBrent Realty at 914 Silver Spring Ave.
    Hours: Monday – Friday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Green Owl Design at 5303 Baltimore Ave. Suite 101
    Hours: Wednesday – Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to Silver Spring Cares, the four businesses are women-owned. The collected items will go to “I Support the Girls,” a locally-started nonprofit and international network that distributes the items to women and girls experiencing homelessness, impoverishment and other distresses.

The drive continues throughout February until the last day of the month.

In a release, Silver Spring Cares Executive Director Mónica O’Malley de Castillo said, “This drive is an excellent way for Silver Spring Cares to build on our efforts to help people experiencing homelessness, impoverishment, or distress to stand tall with dignity. These donations will allow someone to walk through the world comfortably. Such small gifts make a world of difference.”
