State Police Report Decrease in Fatal Crashes During Holiday

MSPMaryland State Police reported a decrease in fatal crashes over the holiday season.

During this period, troopers responded to 1,074 crashes, including five fatal crashes reported. Last year, troopers responded to 1,103 crashes including 10 fatal crashes

Officers with the Maryland State Police began increased holiday traffic enforcement efforts on Dec. 23 which continued through Jan. 1, 2018.

Traffic enforcement efforts by Maryland state troopers during the holiday resulted in more than 10,000 traffic stops that led to 264 arrests and more than 180 arrests of impaired drivers.

The arrests made by troopers were a result of traffic safety initiatives that included additional patrols, sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and speed enforcement. Officers issued more than 6,000 citations, 7,500 warnings and more than 1,400 safety equipment repair orders.
