Staying Safe at Home at the Holidays

Tiny Holiday Lights

The holidays are here and for a lot of people it is a time to be with friends and family. The weather is crisp and there is excitement in the air. People are scurrying about buying presents for their loved ones.

For the woman who is being abused at home, it is a very frightening time. Emotions are high and with that comes even greater abuse. The secret of abuse becomes an even heavier burden when others appear to be happy. You are living day to day on shear survival.

As a survivor of domestic violence, I am here to encourage women who carry around the “Secret” to believe in themselves and know there is help and there is a better way. No One Deserves to be Beaten. Find one person you can trust in and allow them to help you. It sounds so easy, yet I know how hard it is to do.

Have the hotline number memorized. Your biggest challenge is to keep you and your children safe. Start thinking of a plan so when you do leave, you will NEVER have to go back. True love has no tolerance for abuse. Until next time, stay safe.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline: 800.799.7223, 800.787.3224 (TTY)
