Two Local Elementary Schools to be Honored by State Superintendent on May 17

Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jack Smith is expected to join Montgomery Board of Education President Michael Durso and Maryland State Superintendent of Schools, Karen Salmon, in a special ceremony to honor Farmland and Ronald McNair Elementary Schools for their Blue Ribbon accomplishments, according to a news release.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program is a national and state program that recognizes elementary, middle and high schools that exhibit high performance, significant improvements in student achievement and reducing the achievement gap for disadvantaged students.

Each year, up to six Maryland Blue Ribbon schools are recognized by the State Department of Education. In a visit known as the “Tours of Excellence,” the State Superintendent visits each Blue Ribbon School for a special ceremony.
