Born in Hayward, California, Perez holds dual citizenship from the United States and Mexico. She plays on the Mexican National Team. In 2010, Perez scored the winning goal against the United States in the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying game.

“Veronica is one of the most exciting young attacking players in the league, who has lots of potential. I believe our team’s playing style and perfect field surface is only going to help develop the creativity, flair and ability that Veronica will bring to DC,” Spirit general manager and head coach Mark Parsons said. “We are very excited to have her join the Spirit.”
