‘We Are Well Beyond a Tipping Point,’ Says Council President on Gun Violence

On Saturday, a gunman in Buffalo killed 10 people at a grocery store in a predominantly Black neighborhood.

In the last few days in Montgomery County, a shooting was reported at the Silver Spring Transit Center on Saturday and on Monday a possible shooting was reported along the Intercounty Connector (ICC)/MD 200.

During a media briefing Monday, County Council President Gabe Albornoz said, “We are well beyond a tipping point,” when it comes to gun violence.

Albornoz also noted violent incidents involving youth and said they underscore a need to address mental health issues in addition to gun violence. He said the council is working collaboratively through the budget process to see what more can be done, including expanding wellness programs to all high schools.
