  • The Friday Night Live concert series returns to Rockville Town Square tonight with the Dan Haas Band performing. The food and beverage tent this week features Dawson’s Market. Hours are 6:30 to 9 p.m.
  • The Glen Echo Park Partnership hosts open studios and artist demonstrations during Friday evening Art Walk in the Park events on the first Friday of the month, May through September. Hours are 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Support the arts in Germantown at the BlackRock Center for the Arts Gala at 6 p.m.
  • Maryland-based modern dance company VF Dance Theater presents Cirque du Dance at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn at 7 p.m.
  • Finish the work week with laughter, music and innovation at the Air Play performance at the Music Center at Strathmore at 7:30 p.m.
  • Rockville Little Theatre presents Thorton Wilder’s Our Town at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre  in Rockville at 8 p.m.

Saturday, May 7

  • The Nanty Narking Nearly 9K Run in Sandy Spring offers a twist on a Saturday morning run. Packet pick up begins at 7 a.m. at Sandy Spring Friends School.
  • The Tour de Cookie bike ride to support the Tree House begins at 8 a.m. in Rockville today.
  • Need a new entertainment option for your children? Monkey Joe’s Germantown opened Friday, May 6 for children 12 years-old and younger. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The annual Unity Festival takes place at the Long Branch Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come out and enjoy arts and crafts, games, vendors, food, face painting, moon bounce, basketball and more.
  • Peerless Rockville is hosting a presentation and walking tour of one of Rockville’s earliest communities, Quality Hill at 9:30 a.m.
  • The Town of Poolesville is hosting “Poolesville in History Day” at Whalen Commons from 9L30 to 4:30 p.m. Arrive early to see the hot air balloon launch.
  • The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra presents Life in the Water as part of their Music Box Series for young children ages 6 months through 3 years. Two performances at 10 and 11:30 a.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building.
  • Bring your confidential paper to be shredded to the community paper shredding and recycling event at Seneca Valley High School in Germantown. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Montgomery College’s Saturday Morning Children’s Series continues at the Rockville Campus with Amber Brown is Not a Crayon at 11 a.m.
  • The Fourth Annual Fine Arts Festival takes place at Rockville Town Square this weekend. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Adventure Theatre presents The Emperor’s Nightingale at Glen Echo Park today with performances at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • The Puppet Co presents Sleeping Beauty at Glen Echo Park at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Imagination Stage presents Looking for Roberto Clemente at 1:30 and 4 p.m. in Bethesda.
  • Time for professional women’s soccer at the Maryland Soccerplex as the Portland Thorns FC take on the Washington Spirit at 7 p.m. in Boyds. Doors open at 6 p.m.
  • Enjoy the sound of bagpipes, Celtic music and dancing at the Scottish Festival in Rockville. Performance begins at 7 p.m. at Rockville High School.
  • Maryland-based modern dance company VF Dance Theater presents Cirque du Dance at Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn at 7 p.m.
  • The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) conducted by Marin Alsop features two world premieres commissioned by BSO and other pieces all composed by women. This Celebration of Uncommon Women takes place at The Music Center at Strathmore at 8 p.m.
  • Rockville Little Theatre presents Thorton Wilder’s Our Town at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville at 8 p.m
