Here’s five things to know today, Monday, Jan. 8, in Montgomery County:

1. Evening Commute Challenge: A light wintry mix of rain and sleet is expected to affect the evening commute.

2. Candidates: The Democratic candidates for Montgomery County executive will be part of a forum hosted by Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors in Rockville, starting at 10 a.m. Participants are County Councilmembers Roger Berliner, Marc Elrich, and George Leventhal; Delegate Bill Frick; former Rockville mayor Rose Krasnow; and health care executive David Blair.

3. Budget: County Executive Ike Leggett hosts a fiscal 2019 budget forum at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, 4805 Edgemoor, Bethesda, starting at 7 p.m.

4. Positive Smartrips: Metro won’t allow negative balances on its Smartrip cards, starting today.

5. Moving Along: And speaking of transit, Ride On has made changes to 13 routes that started Sunday. See the changes here.
