Five Things List-03Here are five things to know today, Dec. 8, in Montgomery County:

1. MCPS Interim Superintendent Larry Bowers is set to unveil his recommended operating budget today. The Montgomery County Board of Education is also scheduled to elect officers and vote on the school calendar for next year. Follow @MyMCMedia on Twitter for updates.

2. The Montgomery County Council meets today and some of the items on the agenda, include a fiscal plan update, Office of Legislative Oversight report on childcare programs, a proposed salary schedule for key county employees, a zoning text amendment for marijuana dispensaries in Takoma Park and more.

3. General Services Director David Dise is initiating radon testing in county facilities after reports of elevated levels in more than two dozen schools.

4.  Today is the one-year anniversary of a fatal plane crash  that took the lives of six people in the Gaithersburg area of Montgomery County, and the final report is still pending. An NTSB official tells MyMCMedia that the crash continues to be investigated.

5. Maryland Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford is scheduled to be in Gaithersburg tonight for a Chanukah Firetruck Parade in Kentlands and menorah lighting at Chabad Lubavitch of Upper Montgomery.
