Five Things to Know Today, Feb. 1, in Montgomery County

Five Things List-03Here are five things to know today, Feb. 1, in Montgomery County:

1. Montgomery County public schools are opening on time on Monday morning, according to the district’s website. That’s big news because MCPS students have not been in school for over a week now because of weather and road conditions.

2. WSSC crews are on the scene of a water main break in Silver Spring. Commuters may want to avoid the area.

3. Montgomery County Council President Nancy Floreen is scheduled to meet with reporters today for her first briefing of the new year, and the county’s snow removal operations is one of the topics she is expected to discuss.

4. Another topic Floreen may address is the future of the Department of Liquor Control (DLC), now that George Griffin has left his position as director.

5. Have you heard? Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett is planning to go to Cuba later this month.

One more thing:  The month of February is also known as Library Lovers Month. In Montgomery County, book lovers have a lot to celebrate, including the recently renovated Twinbrook Library branch in Rockville.
