Here are your five things to know today, Jan. 28, in Montgomery County:

1. Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) are closed today. Administrative offices open on time.

2. MCPS is providing free lunches to all students at eleven schools this afternoon.

3. The Montgomery County Council will be holding a number of committee meetings today. You can view the agenda on the County Council website.

4. Many are praising Pepco for limited power loss during the historic blizzard.

5. Some local gas stations are experiencing shortages following the winter storm.


  • Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett announced that residents are required to begin sidewalk snow removal. Residents can begin reporting complaints to MC-311 10 a.m. today.
  • MC-311  call volume remains high several days after the blizzard.
