1. The National Weather Service is predicting that a heat wave will impact our area beginning today. Montgomery County has posted some tips to stay cool on its website.

2. Over two dozen high school students from the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area will compete in the annual tension-filled Spaghetti Bridge Contest today at the Montgomery County campus of Johns Hopkins University. This contest marks the culmination of a four-week summer engineering program, Engineering Innovation.

3. Planning Board member Amy Presley , whose term expires this summer, attended her last meeting on Thursday. Gerald Cichy will be sworn in as the Board’s newest member next week.

4. Bethesda resident Katie Ledecky is on the cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated Olympic preview magazine.
