Michael Bobbitt Officially Bids Adieu to Adventure Theatre

In an email to supporters on Friday, Michael J. Bobbitt announced his departure from Adventure Theatre MTC.

Dear Friends and Parents,

Every day for the past 12 years, I have been so honored to be a part of your lives, and the lives of your children, through one of the most respected trading academies in the DC region, and the works of one of the nation’s most influential professional theaters for young audiences, Adventure Theatre MTC.

So it is truly bittersweet for me to let you know today that I will be stepping down on July 1 as the organization’s Artistic Director to begin my own new adventure as Artistic Director at the New Repertory Theatre in Watertown, MA.

I’m proud of what Adventure has accomplished.  We’ve produced dozens of new works that have gone on to subsequent productions and publishing deals. We pioneered Sensory Friendly productions which are now being modeled all over the globe. And we successfully merged Adventure Theatre with Musical Theatre Center, with ATMTC Academy now offering a strong, curriculum-based program to prepare students for college, career, or wherever life takes them.

While privileged to be a part of helping children get close to their dreams of being performers, we also activated Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity work and made children’s theatre an important part of the fabric of the DC theatre scene.

Today, thanks in large part to my business partner and friend, Leon Seemann, ATMTC is as healthy as it’s ever been, and the team here will seize this opportunity to allow new and fresh ideas onto the stage. ATMTC is in very good hands.

I will be assisting in the search for ATMTC’s next Artistic Director, and I’m sure we will find the very best, creative and visionary candidates for the position.  I know you will support them as you have supported me for so long.

Thank you for your continuing patronage to the arts, and I hope you will visit us for Winnie the Pooh, opening on March 29.

Michael J. Bobbitt

Artistic Director
