The event is part of the “One Maryland, One Book” program of Maryland Humanities to help bring diverse people in communities together through the shared experience of reading the same book, according to a news release.

This year’s selection is Adichie’s book titled, “Purple Hibiscus,” a novel that explores the emotional turmoil of adolescence, the powerful bonds of family, and the bright promise of freedom.

Kickoff for this event begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
