New Wheaton Library to Open in September

UPDATE Friday at 9 a.m.: The grand opening for the Wheaton Library and Community Recreation Center has been changed to Sunday, September 8 at 2 p.m. The facility will open following the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Original Post:

The Wheaton Library officially has an opening date. The grand opening of the new Wheaton Library and Recreational Center will be on September 7, at 11:00 a.m.  Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will attend the ribbon cutting ceremony, and the facility will open immediately after.

The Wheaton interim library has been closed since June, after the original Wheaton library closed in 2016. Residents can expect a community recreation center, pottery studio, Friends of the Library used bookstore, park, underground parking garage and redesigned roadway in addition to the library.

The recreation center is on the first and second floor of the building. The first floor is comprised of a game room, full size gymnasium, and a café space. The second floor will hold exercise and weight rooms, a walking track around the gymnasium, multiple activity rooms, a large social hall, a full service commercial style kitchen, a dance/exercise studio, community lounge, and classrooms. According to the Montgomery County Government website, this facility is the first of its kind in the county.

Here is a preview of the new Wheaton Library and Recreation Center! Check out this AWESOME co-located facility that’s been among my top priorities. This LEED gold building not only will house the library and rec center, but there are several community rooms, art rooms, and dance studios that will be available to the public to rent through the County’s Community Use of Public Facilities office. There’s also a beautiful vegetative roof, a well lit, 168 space underground parking garage, a bookstore, a running/walking track above the gym, a coffee shop, and heated floor in the children’s section of the library! I am very excited that this amenity will be in the heart of Wheaton and I cannot wait to cut the ribbon on this building in September!
