Scammers Attempt to Profit Off Death of Olney Woman Killed When Boy Jumped from Overpass

The family of Marisa Harris released a statement saying scammers are using fraudulent “Go Fund Me and other accounts” in an attempt to profit from their relative’s death.

In a statement, the family warned against fraudulent attempts at extorting money for “funeral arrangements.”

According to reports, Harris, a 22-year-old woman from Olney, Maryland, died Saturday when a 12-year-old boy jumped off the Cedar Lane overpass in Virginia in an apparent suicide attempt. Harris, who was a passenger in the vehicle, died after her boyfriend swerved into a wall in an attempt to avoid the boy.

Harris was studying graduate-level clinical counseling at Marymount University. According to her father, she wanted to work with children.
