Takoma Park Silver Spring Community Kitchen Expected to Open This Summer (VIDEO)

In an effort to help small-scale food entrepreneurs expand their business, the Takoma Park Silver Spring (TPSS) Community Kitchen was launched back in 2012.

Five years later, renovations are complete, a final inspection by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services has passed, and they’re set to open for business this summer.

The 1,120 square-foot kitchen and storage facility will allow small business owners in the food industry meet the necessary requirements to sale food to the public in an affordable facility.

In this MyMCMedia Extra video, Christie Balch, executive director for the Crossroads Community Food Network explains how this new kitchen will help break the cycle of poverty:

To be eligible to cook in the TPSS Community Kitchen, residents have to participate in a 10-week Microenterprise training program. The workshops covers various topics ranging from food safety basics to business fundamentals.
